It’s here! The end of 2014!
2014 marked a lot of changes for me. It was my first full year working a real job, it was my last year as a teenager *gulp*, I began college, completed my Dollfie Dream, and bought a car. 2014 was filled with many small accomplishments in my personal life, but somehow feels underwhelming as a whole.
In my hobby life, 2014 meant another year for Never Outgrew Toys where I’ve met plenty of new people and even hosted a postcard giveaway. This year was also my lightest in terms of new figures as I only added nine to my collection. That number includes scales and nendoroids! And matching the few new figures this year is equally few reviews because as college entered the picture, my motivation and time for figure reviewing shriveled away. This extended to sewing where I also made little progress. Looking at 2014 in my hobby life, the year began well, but I am not proud of how it ended.
But while viewing 2014 as a whole makes me feel unaccomplished, it is undeniable that 2014 was filled with its own unforgettable moments, and remembering them shines light on what can otherwise be seen as a gloomy year. I do want to be clear though that as far as my personal life is concerned, I did have a great year. I just stagnated creatively mid year more than wanted. That is not entirely abnormal for me though as I spend my winters waiting for spring.
Now on to the photo summary. This tradition sprung from my early days on DeviantArt where many artists make progress memes to track their yearly improvement. I was drawing at the time, and not very good at it, so being able to make a chart showing progress was a mere dream. However once I began photography, that dream was given life, and I now enjoy making photo summaries both for self evaluation, and to share with everybody who has supported me throughout the year.
Now let’s take a walk down memory lane:
Merry Christmas everybody! It’s actually only Christmas Eve here, but I’ve always found the day before to be more festive than the day itself. Because anticipation!
I tend to scramble for photos as holidays draw closer, so I don’t really have a special planned out photo shoot. But what I do have are some images of my dolls enjoying Christmas! This is Tamaki’s third, Kagura’s second, and Celeste’s first Christmas. That makes it their first all together, and my first having a Dollfie Dream. I hope to celebrate with two next year! Another thing I scrambled on was clothing, so only Celeste has a new outfit *mostly* made by me. The Pureneemos are wearing a mixture of old clothing, but I tried to make it look festive regardless.
This labor day, I was able to get several things done. I took the review photos for Eren and Mikasa, broke down some clothing into fabric, and prepped a DD tank top for sewing. But another thing I knew I had to do was finally finish Celeste’s intro story!
So here’s the third and final part of the story. My camera battery was dying at this point, so I didn’t focus much on styling everybody for each shot, but I think the message still comes across. Also, let’s just not pay attention to Celeste’s wig change between parts two and three…
If you’d like to catch up with the previous parts to the story, here’s 1 and 2
And as usual, previous stories can be read in the Photo Stories tab.
Tamaki: *Phew!* We just escaped that beast’s grasp by the hair of my tail!
Kagura: But it feels like something is missing…
Look at me making posts like some kind of blogger!
Every couple of months, a good amount of photos with nowhere to go develops which means what I still try to avoid calling a photo dump develops. So it’s mish mash time!
These photos span from early spring to now. The spring photos are a few spare ideas executed during other shoots while the recent ones are part of my trying to figure out how to work with Celeste since she’s ,you know, way bigger than anything I’ve photographed.
First up is Kagura in the clovers. That is, before they became the patch of brown they are now. I was first excited when my dad said he would not be mowing the back yard for a while because it meant I would be able to work with the wild flowers and grasses for a while. Sadly that glee has since melted away as the clovers have largely shriveled up and the yard is filled with weeds almost or as tall as me. There are also giant bugs. I try to stay away from there.
At least the clovers were pretty while they lasted, and being able to get so many pretty shots with Sailor Suit Miku was more than worth it!
That’s right! It’s time for Never Outgrew Toys’ first ever giveaway!
So what’s the occasion? This spring marked the second year anniversary of the blog, and although I made plans for a giveaway, I was not able to sort out the details in time. So this giveaway is partially a belated anniversary celebration, but also because I’ve always wanted to give something away to show my appreciation for the lovely people who read the blog!
Oh, but it doesn’t stop there! Ordering post cards has inspired me to finally take the leap and begin offering prints! I do not intend to keep a shop with prints stocked, but will instead do everything on an order by basis. You pick the photo, I print it! The full details will be announced along with the winners of the giveaway, so let’s go ahead and check out the prizes~
There are four post cards to win, and to appeal to many readers, I’ve included one of each “type”. We have figma, nendoroid, scaled figure, and doll!
Each is standard postcard size, printed on thick glossy paper, and features photos chosen for beauty.
This is my first time having any of my figure photos printed, so seeing them makes me very happy!
The dramatic continuation of Part 1.
Last time we saw the Pureneemo’s perspective, but what was that day like for Celeste?
It was a normal day for me.
Me: Ok, now press “A”!
This story puts my shoddy editing skills to the test.
Many people can experience the same thing, but through the magic of perspective, the simplest of events can become complicated.
Part 1: Tamaki and Kagura’s perspective.
It was a day like any other in that nothing much was happening.
Once again, my figures have been receiving a lot of attention during photo shoots. And after my sewing books came in the mail, suddenly nothing in Tamaki or Kagura’s wardrobe was good enough. The girls haven’t had a proper photo story in quite some time either. So after a huge wardrobe purge, new outfits were definitely in order. And to show off these new outfits, I decided to finally bring to life some photo ideas I’ve had for quite some time. This is a lot like my Christmas shoot which combined a mini story with the typical photo shoot. So let’s reign in one of my favorite seasons with something that everybody should do every now and then– spring cleaning!
With Christmas festivities and New Years buzz having melted away with the snow, the house has taken on a stagnant air, and now that every resident has settled like dust, nothing but the sweet scents and brisk breeze of spring can rouse them.
The photo shoots I post usually consist of photos taken to be displayed as a group, but this time I have pictures that were taken at different times and are coming together for this post. But there is one theme which unites them: spring!
I’ll work in chronological order.
First are a few pictures of Elsa. I sadly missed the snow with her, but spring flowers compliment anyone and work well for the transition from the harshness of winter to gentleness of spring.
The loot is here once again!
And for anyone interested, my Pokémon X journey is going fabulously. I currently have 6 badges and just bought my trainer a cute pink dress in Anistar city. I love being able to change outfits which might be a problem since I’m tempted to do it almost every day. I even changed my trainer into a coat to ride Mamoswine through the snow. Were the Global Sync server not undergoing maintenance at the moment, I’d be sharing pictures as well.
There have also been some changes to my team. I now have: Jolteon(Pippa), Flygon(Pandora), Delphox(Inari), Venusaur(Midori), Azumarill(Blueberry), and Mienfoo(Mutton). Kalos has a phenomenal selection of Pokémon that are accessible throughout your Pokémon journey. In previous regions it felt like there were only a few good Pokémon to catch along the way and all others were merely to fill space in the Pokedex or for you to use until you reached those good Pokémon. But in Kalos, I found that there were infinite possibilities for my team and was often upset that I’d filled a particular spot in so early. I do not want to rush the game, but I am really looking forward to training a competitive team and taking on some other trainers. I’ll definitely be IV training the best Gardevoir that I can. By the way, did you know that Gardevoir is Yami Usagi’s favorite Pokémon? Because it is.
As for this month’s loot, it was another goodie filled one with not a figure in sight. Here’s everything:
Disney Classic Elsa, Shrine Maiden costume, Pink Round Toe Strap Shoes, Asuna Earphone Jack, and Goodsmile Kuji Miku tote.
