Welcome to Figma News Fridays! I was going to write this post earlier, but some awesome news was revealed later today which makes me glad to have waited. So let’s get started!
Samus Aran Rerelease Date Announced
Samus will be released on October 27th. Remember that she was originally scheduled for November, but had her release accelerated by one month.
Not sure how I’d feel if this happened with something I ordered. Mixed emotions.
Venus de Milo Announced
A figma of the Thinker statue wasn’t enough for you? Well FREEING has the answer in the form of Venus de Milo. Yes, Venus de Milo, the marble statue of an armless woman. How will FREEING convert a statue without arms into an action figure? I’d be doubtful, but if they successfully gave us Egashira and his tights and even have plans for Funasshii, I suppose all we can do is wait.
Also, what are the pink animals in Kahotan’s announcement doing? Being friends, that’s what they’re doing.
The Thinker Preorders Begin
The Table Museum’ is a series of figma figures based on famous works of art that almost anyone will recognize! The first in the series is the classic sculpture by Auguste Rodin – The Thinker!
The Thinker was originally a centerpiece of a sculptural group work called ‘The Gates of Hell’, but now the silent, pondering sculpture can be found in textbooks around the world. The figma version is of course articulated, so while you can pose the classic ‘Thinker’ pose, you can also place him in a variety of different poses to bring out a completely different charm to the work of art!
Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out the classic Thinker pose, or various other action poses.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
A special stand, chest and head part are included to recreate the classic pose, but various other head and hand parts are also included.
An articulated figma stand is included, which allows various poses to be taken.
The Thinker retails for 3980 yen and will be released in May 2015.
Looking at FREEING’s official description, the Tabletop Museum certainly is an intriguing one. It promotes the idea of interacting with art in a way that was previously impossible. The issue is just who would be interested in doing such a thing. I say this not to condemn the idea, but because I do not know if the people who would want this series even know about it, or if the typical fan of figures would care to purchase pose able works of art. I feel slightly obligated to consider since I am an art student, however there are many more things I care to purchase. Speaking of purchasing, The Thinker’s price is at least reasonable in light of recent figmas as store discounts place him comfortably into the 3000 yen range. Overall, The Thinker is a pass for me.
Sakura Kinomoto Sculpted
Cardcaptor Sakura merchandise has been popping up a lot lately, and both a nendoroid and figma Sakura were announced. Nendoroid Sakura has been for preorder for months now, but we knew nothing of the figma. Until now!
Figma Sakura appears with Kero in her signature pink outfit from the anime’s first opening along with her staff and a Clow card which means that so far, the basic accessories have been covered! And while it is true that Sakura has many outfits to choose from, I am happy to have a figure of her signature look. Being a classic character, Sakura is already an easy purchase for many, but I hope to see Max Factory put in the extra effort by giving her some awesome extra faces.
That wraps up this week! There was so much to talk about, so what interests you? Upset about delays? Excited for preorders? What do you think of Sakura and Venus de Milo?
