Figma News Fridays 8/29/14

Figma News Fridays! It’s once again being written on Friday!
And thankfully, this Monday will be a day off for me! There are so many things that I want to do with that day, so I’ll have to choose wisely. I suppose I should finish that Mikasa and Eren review…yeah.

As far as figmas go, this week picked up from the slowness of the last two, but not by much. We have a preorder, a release, and more photos of a product that should go up for order soon. So let’s get started!

Red Pyramid Thing Preorders Begin
Red Pyramid Thing preview page

From the highly acclaimed horror game ‘SILENT HILL 2’ comes a figma of the famous ‘Red Pyramid Thing’ also known as ‘Pyramid Head’ – easily the most popular monster in the series!

Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out a variety of different scenes.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
The Pyramid Head’s symbolic ‘Great Knife’ and ‘Spear’ are both included along with a number of hand parts.
Alternate neck parts are also included to recreate different scenes from the game.
An articulated figma stand is included, allowing various poses to be taken.
Red Pyramid Thing retails for 4444 yen and will be released in April 2015

Woah, April 2015? There’s definitely time to save for this one!
Red Pyramid Thing definitely takes the prize for “Most Textured figma”. But is it too much texture? Is that even a thing? I’ll let potential buyers decide, but it’s like they blasted the wet sculpt with sand.
But perhaps that’s nitpicking because this is surely an unconventional character who definitely offers interesting opportunities for photos. I look forward to whatever it is the internet brings.

Progress on Horse

Max Factory is finally milking some of the potential of manufacturing individually sold accessories for figmas which is something GSC has been doing with nendoroids for quite some time. It is true that the many non standardized aspects of figmas make them more difficult to create universal accessories for, but I think a horse was a great way to start regardless of whether or not this leads to our seeing more animals.
Anyway, the horse has been in production for some time now, and appearing with official photos on GSC’s broadcast is a good sign that we should be seeing preorders opening for it sometime soon. The horse is a standard brown color, articulation looks great, and it’s neat to see the awesome figma joints applied to a non humanoid sculpt. We can also see bridle and saddle accessories.
Figma Horse is definitely on my watch list, but price will be a definite deciding factor. I would not be surprised if its price was in the same range as a regular figma which may lead to my not preordering and opting to find it less expensive after release(like Chariot. Horse and Chariot haha). Still, I know that there is tons of potential with figma Horse. Some paint can give you a diverse stable, and further modding makes having a pegasus , unicorn, or maybe even a figma centaur possible.

Friday

Archer Released

Could it? Could it actually be happening? figma Archer is finally available to the masses!
I ended up not preordering Archer due to lack of extreme interest, but knowing that I have almost every other Fate figma and the new anime will be out soon, we’ll see.

That brings this week to an end! What do you think about this week’s offerings?

Also, don’t forget that you can know quickly about the latest posts and figmas to go up for preorder by following @NeverOutgrewToy on Twitter or liking on Facebook!

  1. I see what you did in the tags there…..

It’s nice to see stuff finally start to pick up, though none of the stuff this week really interests me. Hope next month is busier figma-wise!
