Figma News Fridays 7/25/14

It’s Figma News Fridays, and in honor of the number of male figmas there are this time around, I declare it Figman Friday! With lots of surprises attributed not just to upcoming Wonderfestival, this was a great week. And that rings especially true for male figmas, as out of all the figmas we have to look at this week, only one of them is female. This is a manly man week, so let’s get started!

Kirito Re-release Preorders Begin
kirito preview page

From ‘Sword Art Online’ comes a rerelease of figma Kirito!

Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out a variety of different scenes.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
He comes with three expressions including his standard expression, a shouting expression for combat and a lazy expression.
His favorite sword, ‘Elucidator’ as well as the sword made by Lisbeth, ‘Dark Repulser’ are both included, each with effect parts.
Both swords can also be stored away on his back for non-combat scenes.
An articulated figma stand is included, which allows various poses to be taken.
Kirito retails for 3889 yen and will be released in December.

This is something that I know many people have been waiting for! Seeing that neither GSC nor Max Factory properly rode the Sword Art Online train and seemed satisfied with giving us nendoroids and figmas of only Kirito and Asuna, I was doubtful that the series would receive much more attention from these lines which made it a shame when Kirito’s price skyrocketed well above retail. It seemed like there was little to encourage more SAO goods when the second season(titled Sword Art Online II. So creative) came to the rescue. We already have a rerelease of Kirito, and GSC may or may not have already teased Nendoroid Sinon, so who knows what other Sword Art Online related surprises will be greeting us at Wonderfestival this weekend?

Another good thing about GSC and friends’ rereleases is that they stay the same price as when originally released which makes Kirito a great buy, and reinforces that in just a year, prices have risen a lot.

Racing Miku 2014 Personal Sponsorship Preorders Begin

Racing Miku figmas differ from others in that they are not only limited releases, but are sold as part of a personal sponsorship package for Goodsmile Racing. Purchasing a package provides you with the satisfaction of funding the team and entitles you to a sponsorship card and some awesome goodies. There are six packages total ranging from 3000 yen to 50,000 and the rewards are apportioned accordingly. The two lower tier packages do not include the figma, so we’ll only be looking at those which do.

Orders have already commenced, and are being accepted from (Wed) Jul. 23 to (Mon) Oct. 27 at 23:59 (JST).
All packages are scheduled for release in January 2015
There are some nitty gritty details, but I’ll let you all who are interested read those on the actual page: http://gsr-global.ecq.sc/

For any who would like to see the figma before ordering, have no fear because she will be shown in her full glory at Wonderfestival this Sunday.

I always try my best to collect each year’s Racing Miku, but have only succeeded in purchasing the 2011 version. Other financial obligations along with the fact that payment is made upfront prevented me from getting an order in for the last two years, but I just might have a better chance at the 7000 yen sponsorship package this time around.

Onoda Sakamichi Preorders Begin

onoda sakamichi preview page

From the anime series ‘Yowamushi Pedal’ comes a figma of the main character, Sakamichi Onoda!

Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out a variety of different scenes.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
He comes with a standard expression, a cheerful smiling expresion as well as a serious expression for riding up steep hills.
His drink bottle is included for him to hold, and a partly pre-painted plastic model kit of his bike is also included.
An articulated figma stand is included, which allows various poses to be taken.
Onoda retails for 5370 yen and will be released in January 2015

January 2015? C-could it be that I’ve successfully avoided all figmas from November onwards?! *weeps tears of joy*
Another thing that I’m sure Yowamaushi pedal fans are weeping with excitement over(other than that a show about bike riding actually got a figma) is that Onoda really does come with his bike!
Overall, Onoda looks quite nice with a round head that reminds me a lot of 90’s anime style. Not that I ever read anime in the 90’s, but you know. Aside from the bike, he comes with a water bottle and some very determined faces. In fact, I’m afraid that one in the shot of him using the water bottle is a tad too determined– almost yandere. Is senpai thirsty?!

Oh but the fun doesn’t stop there!

sakamichi gsc bonus

Orders of figma Sakamichi Onoda from the GOOD SMILE ONLINE SHOP will include a ‘Singlet Number Sticker’ as a bonus!

A decent bonus since it’s still not an absolute must have.

Friday

The Friday before Wonderfestival, we are usually flooded with delicious teaser images setting the stage for excitement. Oddly, there is only one figma teaser this time around, but it is quite the shocker!

But before we get to that teaser, let’s take a look at one of Phat’s exclusive figmas which we are only now learning the details of.

SatzBatz Knight Previewed

hIE1406257634

From the mysterious cyberpunk ninja novel with an anime series on the way, ‘Ninja Slayer’ comes a figma of SatzBatz Knight!

Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out a variety of different scenes.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
He comes with a number of hand parts allowing poses such as his ‘aisatsu’ and ‘karate’ poses! An alternate scarf part for more dynamic action poses is also included!
A huge ‘Anti-Ninja Missile’ and ‘Shachihoko Gargoyle’ are both included.
Additional parts for the separately sold figma Ninja Slayer are also included – a revealed head part, ‘Osushisoba’, ‘Tsuyoi Suriken’ and caltrops.
A selection of speech bubbles are also included on a plastic sheet to display with him.
An articulated figma stand is included, which allows various poses to be taken.
SatzBatz retails for 5000 yen and will be released in November.

This product will be available at the GOOD SMILE ONLINE SHOP. Orders can be placed between the 27th July at 16:00JST and the 4th August at 21:00JST. Please see the GOOD SMILE ONLINE SHOP page for more information regarding shipping and shipping costs: http://goodsmile-wf-global.ecq.sc/wh20phaothwd00002.html/?utm_source=GSCPRODUCT&utm_medium=4522&utm_campaign=http://goodsmile-wf-global.ecq.sc/wh20phaothwd00002.html

SatzBatz Knight is listed as a web exclusive which I assume means he will only be sold online and not also in limited numbers at the event.

Now for the other accessories:

And now back to that teaser!

King Leonidas Announced
king leonidas friday
Now when I say King Leonidas, do I really mean that Leonidas? Oh yes I do! And in case your memory is a little fuzzy, allow me to remind you with a quote: “THIS IS SPARTA!”
Yes, Max Factory is giving us a figma of everyone’s favorite Spartan king from the movie 300 who kicks people into pits. The internet rejoices.

That brings a close to this manly man week of figmas. But we have a great weekend ahead of us with Wonderfestival happening this Sunday. Thanks to timezone differences, news usually begins to pour in Saturday night, and I will be collecting every drop of figma information to share with you all in a special Wonderfestival edition of Figma News Fridays. It’s definitely something for figma fans to look forward to!
In the mean time, what caught your eye this week? And what are you hoping to see this Sunday? I’m eager for more Sailor Moon merchandise!

  1. ALL I WANT ARE SOME GUNSLINGER GIRL FIGMAS!!!!! That or Shinobu’s and Slan’s prototypes. Your puns are brilliant as always. I’m so ecstatic about Kirito’s RE-release that I’ll buy three. SatBatz is too good to be true, I mean it’s a ninja that rides missiles. Leonidas is simply necessary for some Figmemes and he can join your Doge (you can thank me for the idea later).

  2. I’m glad Kiri to is getting a re-release. The $200+ prices were making me sick… and I ALMOST broke down into buying one. Leonidas would be an amazing addition to the collection.
