Figma News Fridays 7/18/14

Welcome to Figma News Fridays! The second one this week actually since it totally slipped my mind last Friday, and I haven’t had time to write anything else this week because of classes. In fact, in spite of having only two classes, I’ve fallen a bit more behind than I’d prefer. My grades are still ok, but I’m just not as on top of things as I’d like to be. Maybe that’s because of doing my homework, I’m writing about small plastic people.
I usually check GSC’s website before writing FNF, and sure am glad I did today because I missed…more than half of the figma news this week. There were quite a few things, so let’s get started!

Monday

Thor Release Date Announced

Saori Takebe Delayed

Origin: Girls und Panzer
Previously scheduled for July, Saori has been delayed to August.
At least they’re telling us early!

Hana Isuzu Preorders Begin
hana isuzu preview page
From the anime series ‘Girls und Panzer’ comes a figma of the Ankou Team’s gunner, Hana Isuzu!

Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out a variety of different scenes.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
She comes with a gentle smiling face, a concentrating face to display her carefully aiming as well as a fascinated expression.
Optional parts include her headset with alternate hair parts to display her wearing it, as well as an alternate skirt part to display her sitting down.
A gunner’s seat and main battery sight is also included to display her as if inside the tank.
An articulated figma stand is included.
Hana retials for 4444 yen and will be released in December.

With December releases popping up, it looks like the figure year is almost over! So far, my preorders only stretch into October, which makes me happy. 4444 yen also looks to be the new standard figma/nendoroid price. Only Pepperidge Farm remembers when figmas, nendoroids, and Beach Queens went for normal prices.

But let’s talk about Hana! Hana is the next Girls und Panzer team member to be added to the figma line, and as with the others, her perceived personality seems to match her position on the tank. Hana looks the be more mature when compared to the artillery loader Yukari, and her gentle eyes and pretty black hair reflect that. Hana comes with three fairly versatile faces my favorite of which is her concentrating face. The tank operating pieces are cool too, but they don’t look very detailed aside from the basic shape. I suppose more detail is something to expect from a scaled figure.
Overall, Hana looks like an ok release definitely if you are a fan. But as with all the other Girls und Panzer figmas, I will be passing on her.

Thursday

Motoko Kusanagi Preorders Begin
motoko kusanagi preview page
From the anime series ‘GHOST IN THE SHELL STAND ALONE COMPLEX’ comes a figma of the main character, Motoko Kusanagi!

Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can act out a variety of different scenes.
She comes with three expressions including her standard face, a shouting face and a smiling face.
Her weapons of choice, the Seburo M-5 and Seburo C-26A are both included allowing for various action scenes.
A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability.
An articulated figma stand is included, which allows various poses to be taken.
Motoko retails for 4444 yen and will be released in December.

Another character who came as a surprise but delights fans nonetheless. One of the reasons I’m happy the figma line has become so popular is not just because it’s awesome *biased* but because popularity means stability and gives Max Factory the freedom to venture outside of characters airing from airing shows. Stand Alone Complex is from the early 2000’s but in line with the recent surge of atypical characters to be figmatized, that doesn’t stop Motoko from becoming a figma!
With a shiny jacket and unusually rounded(and I mean that positively) *ahem* butt, Motoko’s outfit appears well executed. The only possible points of contention are her chest joint and hip joints; both is which interrupt the flow of her outfit but are common things to see on action figures. Her hair has a nice color, and I love the confidence in her faces– especially the last one.
However, for accessories, Motoko does look a little light. But not having watched the show, I have no idea what the options were.
Not being familiar with her character(her outfit also isn’t my taste), I will be passing on Motoko. But I’m sure many are happy to be able to have her!

Solid Snake Sculpted
snake thursday
Origin: Metal Gear Solid 2

Snake was announced at Wonderfestival, and is finally appearing sculpted right before…Wonderfestival! The figma is a few steps behind the nendoroid which is already painted, but I predict great things for the figma since its scale is better suited for a character like Snake.
Also, her better come with a box. A box in his box. Box-ception.

Speaking of Wonderfestival, it won’t be long now! Wonfes is on July 27th!

Friday

Onoda Sakamichi Painted
onoda sakamichi friday
Origin: Yowamushi Pedal

This is a good time for male figmas isn’t it? Onoda isn’t a shota, form a reverse harem, or a manly man, but that doesn’t stop him! You go, Onoda!
Of course I’m probably not the best person to be celebrating these things since I never order any of the diverse figmas I always praise Max Factory for making. In fact, my collection is full of moe school girls, Miku, and Kirito, so I can’t talk. Still, as an observer of the figure market, you go, Onoda!

Also, I’m still not 100% convinced he’ll come with that bike. Not trying to be pessimistic, and he probably will, but you never know.

SatBatz Knight…exists?
satbatz knight friday
Origin: Ninja Slayer

Ok, so apparently SatBatz Knight was announced some time ago, and managed to escape my fiery eye which makes me happy to have checked GSC’s site today. SatBatz is one of Phat Company’s Wonderfestival exclusives for release in November. GSC has not published further information yet, but at least I know he exists now. If only I could say the same about Santa…

Saturday

Nagisa Momoe Released
nagisa momoe preview page
Let’s peer into the future for a moment.
Nagisa will be released this Saturday!

That brings this week to a close, but before I sign off, let’s have ONE LAST reminder about the giveaway.
PC all

First let’s see some stats! There are currently 35 entries total for the four postcards. The card with the most entries is Card A: the figma card, and it far outnumbers the others’. Perhaps next time I do a postcard giveaway, it will be all figma! With the second most is nendoroid, then scaled figure, and finally doll. So if you want to have a good chance of winning, the C and D cards are the best. However, do not forget that you can enter for all four cards, but can only win one.

The giveaway ends on July 20th which is two days away, and the results will be determined and announced on Monday July 21st! I’ll also be giving details on how you can get your own postcards or prints featuring figure photos!

Have a great weekend everybody!

  1. Hmm, there’s an unusually large amount of typos here………. Snake is awesome but I really wish it was his MGS 1 look. Are you buying him? The Ninja is awesome too, I’ll need at least 5 of him. Motoko and Hana are awesome and definite buys for me. WON FES IS COMING!!!!!!!!

  2. Strange that they picked metal gear solid 2’s snake instead of the first solid or the later ones considering how little screen time he had in comparison to raiden. That and it seems like the other solids are more popular. But whatever, it’s still snake!
